Japanese Lesson 46: particle "no" 英語の「の」

You will need to know these Japanese words in order to understand this lesson:

はな
nose

高い
たかい
high (but when talking about noses it means "long")

時間
じかん
time

大切
たいせつ
important

hand

素晴らしい
すばらしい
wonderful

--------------------------

The particle "no" の is easy to understand and easy to use. It's most apparent use is to denote possession. It has other uses as well, but for now we will concentrate on the usage of possession.

The word order is the same as in English: Your hand → あなた の 手

--------------------------

Examples:

彼の鼻が高いです。
かれ の はな が たかい です。
His nose is long.

私の時間が大切です。
わたし の じかん が たいせつ です。
My time is important.

あなたの手が寒いです。
あなた の て が さむい です。
Your hand is cold.

今日の天気は素晴らしいです。
きょう の てんき は すばらしい です。
The weather is wonderful today.
(Today's weather is wonderful)
